RMTA Jazz Competition 2021

Congratulations to Binson P., who won 1st place in the 7th grade division of the 2021 Richardson Music Teachers Association Jazz Competition. He performed Glenda Austin's Jazz Suite No. 2, first movement. Bravo, Mr. Binson!

2021 RMTA Sonatina/Sonata Festival

Each Spring the Richardson Music Teachers Association hosts the Sonatina/Sonata Festival. This year’s festival was held in February 2021.

Sonatas are musical pieces using a standard pattern for organizing musical melodies and harmonies. Sonatinas are “little” sonatas. Students must prepare and memorize their piece for the festival and receive a judge’s evaluation and a certificate for their performance.

The evaluation consists of three possible ranks. Points are awarded for each rank. With each increment of 15 points, students are eligible to receive a trophy.

2021 RMTA Spring Recital Festival

The RMTA Spring Recital Festival is the opportunity for student's to showcase and perform one of the following types of music repertoire:

• non-classical repertoire 
• lead sheet accompaniment

2021 TMTA All-Star Festival

Every year the Texas Music Teachers Association hosts an All-Star Festival at its state convention. This Festival features elite piano students whose teachers are members of the Texas Music Teachers Association. Students qualify only if they have received a rating of  I+ or I in a past festival. This year the All-Star Festival was digital.

The Allen Long Piano Studio had 20 entries. 
Eighteen students received the highest score, "Superior Plus". 
Two students received the next highest score, "Superior". 

The participants will receive gold medals and are to be congratulated for a job well done!

RMTA 2020 Spring Festival

Congratulations to these students who submitted video recordings of their performances during the third week of July for the 2020 Spring Festival.

This year the RMTA Spring Festival was cancelled because of Covid-19 and rescheduled for the month of July. Repertoire for the Spring Festival is by teacher's choice. Students memorize one piece of music to perform. They receive a rating, certificate, and evaluation. The ratings have a point value, and for every 15 points earned, the RMTA recognizes the student with a trophy.
